Jojo Can’t Take That Away From Me

JoJo returned to the music scene after a 4 year hiatus with her mixtape ‘Can’t Take That Away From Me’ Sept 7th. She debuted in 2004 with her self-titled album and followed up with her sophomore album High Road in 2006. Jordan Gatsby and former NLT member Travis Garland are also featured.

The title song ‘Can’t Take That Away from Me’ is disappointing. JoJo may be trying to “experiment” with this, but it comes off as a bad pop song. I prefer more of a R&B sound from her.

Another song that caught my attention is “Pretty Please” with its ‘Single Ladies’ Beyonce beat, but the harmonies in the chorus make this so fun to listen to.

“In The Dark” shows a mature side of JoJo talking about a relationship with no strings attached. The song does have auto-tune  in it but it isn’t so heavily edited that it makes it annoying.

A personal touch is added in “All I Want Is Everything” with the songstress telling all of her wishes with a laid back R&B sound.

Overall the mixtape wasn’t too different from the previous material released by JoJo. I really enjoyed listening to it and if you’re a fan, then you should definitely check it out!

I rate this 4.5 stars 5 .
